5 Quick Ways to Spruce Up Your Home

9/12/2017

Sometimes it feels like owning a home is a constant practice in project management. Mow the lawn, clean the gutters, redo the floors, remodel the kitchen. While we know you aren’t seeking out new projects, every now and then you want to give your home a little love that goes outside basic maintenance. Not all projects require a lot of labor.

Here are 5 ideas for quick projects to spruce up your home:

Paint your Cabinets
So this might not be the fastest project, but it is low cost and makes a big statement. If you feel like your kitchen is outdated and in need of facelift, you may just need to give your cabinets an upgrade. Kitchen renovations aren’t fast and can be quite costly, but repainting your cabinets can upgrade your look without emptying your wallet. Use a cabinet painting kit such as this one for best results.

Update the Details
Doorknobs, switch plates and hardware can make a big difference. This super quick project can take your house from in need of an update to just what you were wanting. To keep the scope of the project manageable work through your home room by room, updating one or two rooms in a weekend. Buy all the supplies you need at one time so you know you will have matching items. Don’t be afraid to splurge a little on the hardware to really make a statement.

Choose an Accent Color
Painting a whole room feels like quite the undertaking, so try painting just a wall instead. Accent walls are perfect for a gallery wall or a wall with a view to help draw attention. Choose a color that goes with your decor so you don’t have to redecorate everything. Don’t be afraid to go bold, it’s just paint and can always be covered up.

Rearrange Furniture
If some of your rooms are feeling crowded or boring it may be time for a new layout. It’s amazing what moving a few pieces of furniture around can do. Pull furniture away from the walls to make a room look bigger. Use area rugs to help define spaces in large rooms. Don’t be afraid to move furniture into new rooms for an updated feel. Your nightstand may make for a great accent next to your couch. Get creative and have fun. Don’t forget about wall hangings!

Enhance the Front Door
Make a statement before your guests even arrive. Your front door is a focal point and you can make a big statement with just a few small changes. Update your address numbers to fit your style, and to make them visible. You can paint your front door a bright color (if you live in a neighborhood with an HOA consult them first) or get a whole new one. To give your house an inviting feel, put some planters out by the front door to draw your guests in.

These projects can be completed in just a weekend and will make a big impact. Have fun!
