Here are our purging tips:
Tackle the clutter:
Start with piles you have accumulated. If there isn’t an obvious home for items around your house it’s likely time for them to go. Have each family member take an honest look at their piles as well. Sort into keep, maybe and give away. Take time to go through the maybe pile together to determine if each item truly needs to stay. Beginning with what’s creating chaos will get the get the ball rolling.
Start somewhere small, like the bathroom. Toss old hair and makeup products and look through the medicine cabinet for expired medications. If you have unopened products you won’t use, even ones from hotel rooms, many charities around town will gladly take them off your hands.
Don’t skip knick knacks:
Even items in your home which have their own space may no longer be necessary. Do the knick knacks add value to your life? If the answer is no, consider letting them go to a new home.
Empty Your Closets:
Don’t forget about your closets! Clothes pile up quickly. Take all of your clothes out of your closets and try them on. If you feel iffy wearing them donate them to Goodwill or another charity who can reuse them.
Don’t get caught up in figuring out a system or deciding where to start -- just get started! Once you get going it will be hard to stop!
Hopefully these tips help you get your house purged and ready for a deep clean in the Spring! When you own less you clean less, so it’s a win-win. Prepare for a big Spring clean with a great Fall purge and you won’t ever look back!
